Mayor Willie Mae Powell
Greetings,
We are glad to have you visit our little place on the World Wide Web. We have
built this site with you in mind, and hope you find all you need to help you
understand why Shorter, Alabama is “The Town on the Move!”
For our long-term citizens, this site offers useful information about new local
laws, new developments, zoning law changes, meetings and opportunities to join
local organizations or citizen volunteer efforts.
If you are a new resident, potential business developer, or visitor, we offer a
special welcome. Shorter is a compelling place to shop, work; worship or play
Established on February 29, 1984, Shorter is a young town with great
development potential. Shorter gets it’s name from former Alabama Governor,
John Gill Shorter. We are currently working to develop a new conceptual
downtown plan to assist in the attraction of new commercial businesses to
complement our new industrial developments.
Shorter sits close to everywhere and far enough from everything for families to
enjoy a bit of peace and quiet at home. We are proud to boast about our
excellent transportation access (interstate, highways, rail, water) and are
moving aggressively to use these advantages to grow our Town Shorter is quickly
becoming a destination for many who are looking for opportunities to recreate
themselves.
We are proud to be the home of one of Hyundai’s premier supplier plants, Halla
Climate Systems-Alabama. Halla will employ approximately 200 people and is the
anchor in our new 400-acre “Shorter Technology Park” Each day, new jobs and new
homes are being established in our Town. As Mayor, I invite you to come visit
our Town and let us carve out your piece of Shorter People like you are an
integral part of our efforts to make Shorter: “A Town on the Move!”
Yours very truly,

Willie Mae Powell
