New Manufacturing Facility to be built in the Town of Shorter
The 100,000 sq. ft. facility will employ between 150-200 employees, and will produce climate control components for Front End Module systems, heating ventilation and air conditioning assemblies (HVAC), and plastic components for the automotive industry. The town of Shorter will provide 25-acres of land for an industrial building site, and through a grant from the Alabama Department of Transportation's "Industrial Access road Program", will acquire the right-of-way for an industrial access road to the site to make improvements to include hydrants, signage and grassing. “Halla's decision to locate this new manufacturing facility in Shorter is a great honor for the city and region, ” said Shorter Mayor Willie Mae Powell. “The products that will be manufactured here will help mold the future of the town of Shorter and help our efforts to make Shorter a 'Town on the Move'". Halla Climate Control is a major manufacturer and distributor of climate control products. The company produces a variety of systems and components, including air conditioning, heater assemblies, compressors, clutches, radiators, engine cooling modules and other components for the automotive industry. - more - Located strategically on U.S. Interstate 85 and U.S. Highway 80 in Macon County, Alabama, Shorter is 20 minutes from downtown Montgomery and only 35 minutes from Auburn. The police jurisdiction of Shorter encompasses around 1,000 people. Shorter has become the model for a small community by enacting progressive measures in economic development such as: 20-year planning, website development, police and fire protection, water and sewer investment, recycling and creating regional partnerships in economic development. Rich in Alabama history, Shorter boasts a section of the Old Federal Road, built in 1811, and played a prominent role in civil rights. The community today is known primarily for its agricultural heritage and for the Victoryland Racing Track. Shorter is named after the former Alabama Governor John Gill Shorter, and was incorporated in 1984.
