George L. Davis is the son of Minnie Davis and George Lucas Jr. of Greenwood,
Mississippi. Educated in the Greenwood Public School system, George graduated
with Highest Honors, where he was a member of the National Honor Society.
Recognizing that education was the key to spiritual and financial prosperity,
he engulfed himself in academia. He is a graduate of the prestigious Tuskegee
University where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science.
He also is a graduate of Troy State University where he received his Masters of Science
Degree in Human Resource Management, and is also working on his certification to be a
Professional in Human Resource Management. His experience and expertise include management,
policy development and analysis, and budget preparation.
Mr. Davis has enjoyed a progressive career in the public sector, namely the Town of Shorter.
Upon Graduating from Tuskegee University, he came aboard the Town as an Intern.
As time transpired, he earned a promotion to Deputy Clerk, assisting Town Clerk Harold Powell.
As time passed, a centralization of all personnel policies and duties took place,
Mayor Powell and Council then appointed Mr. Davis head of the Department.
Presently, he serves a dual roll as Director of Human Resources, as well as Deputy Clerk.
Being taught to “Help those who cant help themselves”, he prides himself on being a
lifelong humanitarian. George stresses the importance of education, friendship,
and family bonds.
