Curtis Williams was born on April 2, 1970 in Montgomery, Alabama.
Shortly after his birth, Curtis was moved to Hardaway, Al., where
he would spend the majority of his formative years. Educated in the
public schools of Macon County, Alabama, Curtis now attends Alabama State
University, where he is a final semester senior majoring in Elementary Education.
He will be graduation in December 2005. He is the grandson of Irene J. Sanders,
a retired employee of Alabama Department of Youth Services, Mt. Meigs campus.
Before his dreams of becoming an educator, Curtis time was spent in community development.
He holds the official title of clerk for Nebraska Missionary Baptist Church.
Along with the position as clerk he also serves as Gospel Choir President,
Assistant Youth Department Director, church caterer, and Trustee.
In addition to his positions held at his church he also hold other community service
offices, such as, Activities Director of the Macon County Outreach Modification Youth
Program which has been in existence for over 20 years. The mission
statement of the Macon County Outreach Modification Youth Program is simply
to aid at-risk youths from distress areas in the county with after school tutorial,
mentoring in conjunction with local universities, cultural field trips, guest speakers,
workshops on teen related issues, and building self-esteem. He is admired by all
of his students from this program. He plans and schedules all activities for this
program such as out of town field trips, guest speakers, workshop, and after school tutorial.
It is because of his involvement with the Macon County Outreach Modification Youth
Program that has granted him the opportunity to serve as financial officer for the
Shorter Outreach Youth Program under the directorship of Mayor Willie Mae Powell.
His experience as financial officer for Outreach did not go unnoticed.
He was soon appointed to the position of Treasurer for the Town of Shorter by the
Mayor and Council of the Town of Shorter where he has serve for the past 31/2 years.
In his efforts to accomplish his life goal as an educator, Curtis strives to ensure
all youths for his area and surrounding areas get the opportunity to learn and to
achieve their life goal without prejudices of color, background, and gender.
He has aided many youth in the community in improving their academic success.
He truly believes in preparing our future for the future.
